If you follow any self-employed accounts on social media, you have probably seen the name "Veri*Factu" circulating with more urgency than it deserves. Let's get to the useful part: what it is, who it really affects, and from when — without the alarm.
What Veri*Factu is, in one sentence
Veri*Factu is the system through which the Spanish Tax Agency requires invoicing software to guarantee that every invoice you issue is tamper-proof, cannot be altered afterwards, and is traceable (with a QR code included) so that the tax authority can verify it.
The date that actually matters: July 1, 2027
For self-employed professionals (individuals) who invoice using software connected to a management system, the requirement for that software to comply with Veri*Factu comes into force on July 1, 2027. That is the relevant date if you use any application to invoice — from a spreadsheet template to practice management software.
If your practice is set up as a company rather than as a self-employed professional, the date that applies to you is earlier: January 1, 2027.
One important nuance: if today you invoice entirely by hand, in Word or on paper, without connecting anything to a management program, technically you can keep doing so without being immediately forced to adopt Veri*Factu. But it is worth asking yourself whether that is really how you want to keep running your practice — invoicing by hand means zero automation, more room for error, and no real visibility into how much you are invoicing month to month until you sit down to add it all up.
(This is general guidance, not tax advice — for your specific situation, always confirm with your accountant.)
What this means in practice for your practice
If you invoice using software from July 2027 onward (or January 2027 if your practice is a company), that software will need to:
- Guarantee that an invoice cannot be modified once issued.
- Include a verifiable QR code.
- Keep a traceable record of every invoice, ready to be submitted to the tax authority if required.
Day to day, this should not mean extra work for you — it is the software that has to comply, not you manually. The problem shows up if your current way of invoicing (an Excel template, for example) was not built for this and you end up migrating everything in a rush close to the deadline.
How we handle this at SIKIO
At SIKIO, every time you book a service for a client, the corresponding activity is generated automatically and, with it, the invoice or simplified invoice — already built to meet Veri*Factu requirements, without you having to do anything different from what you already do: book the appointment.
You don't need to get ahead of that date with a last-minute migration or learn a new system under pressure: when it arrives, your invoicing already complies.
If you want to try it with no strings attached, at SIKIO you can try the service for free until the end of 2026 — and since we are a small team, if you have any questions you talk directly to us, not to a bot.
